Film anonymization for player evaluation

Evaluate the player, not the pedigree.

Blind Scout strips every identity cue out of game film โ€” numbers, names, helmets, logos, team colors, field markings, the crowd โ€” and leaves the movement untouched. What's left is the play.

The problem

You can blind a stat sheet. Nobody has ever been able to blind film.

Evaluation has spent decades stripping bias out of everything measurable โ€” testing numbers, production, combine results. Film stayed the exception, because film leaks identity in every single frame. The number on the chest. The helmet. The logo at midfield. The school painted in the end zone. An evaluator doesn't get to choose not to see them.

Two players can put an identical rep on tape. Only one of them is also carrying a program, a recruiting ranking, and a name the room already has an opinion about.

Watch identity come off

Four passes. Same football.

Every identifier is removed in sequence, across every player in frame โ€” not just the prospect being graded.

TIGERS
What gets removed

Whole-frame treatment, not just the prospect.

All twenty-two players, plus everything around them that identifies the program.

01

Numbers & nameplates

Front and back, through rotation, contact and occlusion.

02

Helmets & team marks

Helmet logos, decals, sleeve and pant marks โ€” every branded surface.

03

Team colors

Uniforms neutralized so the palette no longer signals a program.

04

Field & end zone

Midfield logos, end-zone wordmarks, painted field identity.

05

Venue & crowd

Stadium and sideline cues that place the game and the program.

06

Motion preserved

Footwork, pad level, hips, hands, burst and timing left fully intact.

How it works

You send film. You get film back.

Delivered as ordinary cutups your staff grades in the tools they already use.

01

You send the cutup

Coaches film or all-22, handled under your NDA and your terms for storage, access and deletion. Nothing is used to train anything without written permission.

02

Every player is located and separated

All twenty-two, frame by frame, through traffic and contact โ€” not just the player being evaluated.

03

Identity is removed, movement is kept

Numbers, marks and colors are neutralized and the environment is stripped, with silhouettes and motion preserved so the rep still reads the way it reads on tape.

04

Your staff grades it blind

Then unblind it and compare. The output is the video; the finding is whether the grade moved.

About

Built by engineers who ship hard video problems.

Blind Scout was founded by Brendan Morrell, a principal software engineer who has spent his career building production systems where the hard part is the data, not the demo.

He was an early engineer at Realize Me, a consumer technology startup he joined at formation and helped build through its acquisition by The Asprey Group โ€” the health and human-performance company founded by Dave Asprey, whose ventures include Upgrade Labs and Danger Coffee. He stayed on through the integration, and has since worked in regulated healthcare technology, where correctness is not a matter of taste.

Blind Scout came out of a simple observation: every other input to a scouting decision has been systematically de-biased, and film โ€” the input everyone weights most heavily โ€” never has been, because until now nobody could.

The engineering team brings three decades of visual effects, real-time graphics and production computer vision to the problem. Removing identity from moving footage without destroying the movement is a genuinely hard visual problem, and it is exactly the kind of problem this group has spent their careers solving.
